HBG Big News This Week: February 25-March 1, 2019

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of February 25-March 1, 2019:

Bestseller news: New to the New York Times bestseller list this week and charting high is James Patterson’s The Chef (Little, Brown), debuting at #2 on both the Print Hardcover Fiction and the Combined Print & Ebook Fiction lists. HBG has 15 books on the NYT list and our distribution clients have two books on the list this week.

Academy of Arts & Letters: Little, Brown authors David Sedaris and Stacy Schiff will be inducted into The American Academy of Arts and Letters. See The Associated Press for the full announcement and list of other inductees. An honor society founded in 1898, the academy has 240 core members, in the categories of books, music and art. New artists are voted in after previous ones die, with those dying over the past year including Philip Roth, Donald Hall and Ursula K. Le Guin.

Axiom Business Book Awards: Three PublicAffairs titles were selected as gold medalists in the 2019 Axiom Business Book Awards – The Snowball System by Mo Bunnell (Networking category), Leap by Howard Yu (Business Intelligence/Innovation), and Type R (Success/Motivation/Coaching). 20. Anthony Lukas Prizes: PublicAffairs also has a nominee for the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize with American Overdoseby Chris McGreal. The Lukas Prizes are sponsored by the Columbia Journalism School and the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University and honor “the best in American nonfiction writing.” See the full shortlist here. Winners will be announced on March 20.

Major launch: Victor Davis Hanson will launch his new book The Case for Trump (Basic Books) next week with a major national media campaign, including appearances on FOX News Channel’s The Story with Martha McCallum, Tucker Carlson Tonight, FOX & Friends, and The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton; FOX News Radio’s Kilmeade and Friends and The Todd Starnes Show; Sirius XM’s Breitbart Radio, Westwood Network’s Jim Bohannon Show, and national print coverage in New Criterion, New York Times Book Review, American Conservative, Limbaugh Letter and first serial inNational Review.  

Media Blitz: Alyssa Mastromonaco’s So Here’s The Thing…Notes on Growing Up, Getting Older and Trusting Your Gut (Twelve) goes on sale next week supported by a blockbuster national television campaign – interviews on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, All In with Chris Hayes, Deadline White House with Nicole Wallace, and Andrea Mitchell; CBS This Morning, CNN’s Tonight with Don Lemon and Out Front with Erin Burnett, FOX News’s The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino, Buzzfeed AMtoDM, BBC America’s BBC News with Katty Kay, and national podcast interviews including Pod Save America, Keep It!, TBD with Tina Brown, and Here to Make Friends. Mastromonaco will also do on-stage book events in New York, DC, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

PBS-NYT Book Club: Naomi Alderman’s The Power (Little, Brown) will be the March pick for Now Read This, the PBS NewsHour–New York Times Book Club.
