HBG Big News This Week: September 3-7, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of September 3-7, 2018:

Bestseller news: HBG has 18 titles on the NYT list overall. Our distribution clients have five titles on the list this week, including one #1 bestseller —We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins (Disney-Hyperion), on the Picture Book list. HBG also has 11 titles on the USA Today list, see the full list here.

Salinger centennial: Little, Brown announced their plan to publish special editions of the work of J. D. Salinger in 2019, in connection with the centennial of his birth. The Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories,Franny and Zooey, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction will have striking new cover designs; these editions will be published in November 2018 and kick off a year-long celebration of Salinger’s work. L,B is planning a series of events in cities across the country to celebrate Salinger’s work. The New York Public Library will host a special exhibition of manuscripts, letters, books and artifacts from Salinger’s archive, slated to open in October 2019.

Major release: Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman’s Not for the Faint of Heart: Lessons in Courage, Power and Persistence (PublicAffairs) goes on sale next week, supported by a great publicity lineup. She appeared this week on CBS This Morning (see interview here), MSNBC’s Morning Joe, CNN/PBS’s Amanpour, MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, and CNN’s New Day. Still to come are interviews on BBC/PBS’s Beyond 100 Days (with additional national TV interviews in the works), and on NPR’s Weekend All Things Considered, WNYC’s Brian Lehrer, WGBH Radio Boston, and more. First Serial ran at Foreign Affairs in their September-October issue, already on stands and available online here, and second serial will run online at POLITICO next week.
